Evacuation of people from coastal areas is underway on Russia‘s Kuril Islands after a series of powerful quakes hit Japan, a local emergencies services official said.
Waves up to 2 meters high triggered by the earthquake have reached Iturup, one of the Kuril Islands, a local tsunami watch official said.
Authorities in Russia’s Far Eastern Sakhalin Island also issued a tsunami warning
